Businessman and philanthropist, Jerry Joseph Damara, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), pledging full support for Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s administration.

Damara, well known in Kaltungo Local Government Area for his community interventions, formally announced his defection yesterday in Gombe, where he presented his new APC membership card during a courtesy visit to the governor.

He said his decision was driven by the developmental strides recorded under Yahaya.

The Managing Director/CEO of Mesotho Group Limited explained that the governor’s visible projects and policies, especially in infrastructure, healthcare, education and rural development, convinced him to align with the ruling party.

Also joining him was Tha’anda Rubainu, who served as deputy governor under former Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo between 2011 and 2015.

Damara noted that the move was a collective decision involving Rubainu and other prominent PDP members from Gombe South.

He praised the APC-led government for what he described as practical leadership and service delivery.

“I am a construction man, and I know what construction means in the development of a state and society. Your Excellency, you have done well to construct Gombe for the benefit of all,” Damara stated.

Governor Yahaya, while welcoming the defectors, described their entry into the APC as a major political gain, not just for Gombe but for the country at large.

He reiterated that his administration’s achievements in road construction, healthcare, education and civil service reforms were proof of his government’s performance.

“This is a very big moment for us because it signifies that there is no more opposition in the state. The backbone of the opposition in Gombe has been broken,” Yahaya declared.
