The Institute of Law Research & Development of United Nations (ILAWDUN) has officially confirmed the appointment of Cyprian F. Edward-Ekpo as its substantive Director-General. The decision was approved through a board resolution dated October 7, 2023.

Edward-Ekpo, who has African roots, had been serving as the Proterm Director-General since 2022. His appointment was initially on a probationary basis, in line with the Institute’s constitutional provisions, before receiving full confirmation.

Although the formal confirmation letter was issued on August 19, 2024, it retroactively affirms the effective date of his substantive appointment as October 7, 2023.

Headquartered in Washington D.C., the Institute of Law Research & Development *of United Nations* (ILAWDUN) operates independently as a private organization, and it is also given a U.S government legally protected registration status for its base and administration in Washington D.C. It focuses on in-depth research into international law, especially as it relates to United Nations’ legal structures, policies, and development programs.

The Institute also offers training, consultancy, education, and advisory services in international law. It regularly publishes legal reviews, provides recommendations on legal reforms, and supports global development efforts through its programs and expert analyses.

Edward-Ekpo’s confirmation marks a significant step for the Institute as it continues to play an active role in shaping and interpreting international law and development policies for the benefit of the global community.
