The Nigeria Customs Service has announced plans to auction 14,375 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) seized from smugglers attempting to illegally move the product to Cameroon.
The petroleum products were intercepted by the Customs Special Anti-Smuggling Taskforce, Operation Whirlwind, during intensified surveillance operations along border communities in the Calabar axis of Zone C.
The National Coordinator of the taskforce in Zone C, Abubakar Aliyu, confirmed that the Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the seized petrol stands at N14,375,000.
He stated, “Within the past several weeks, acting on credible and actionable intelligence, our operatives successfully dismantled a coordinated network involved in the illegal exportation of Premium Motor Spirit to neighbouring Cameroon.”

Aliyu explained that the operation led to the seizure of 235 jerry cans of 25 litres each and 40 drums of 200 litres each, totalling 14,375 litres of PMS. He added, “The total Duty Paid Value of the seized petroleum products stands at N14,375,000 (Fourteen Million, Three Hundred and Seventy-Five Thousand Naira only).”
The taskforce said the products were being diverted for illegal export in violation of Nigeria’s petroleum distribution laws. The interceptions were made across strategic smuggling corridors including Ikang, Bakassi, Ikom, and Ikot-Idareka.
Aliyu reiterated that the Customs Service remains committed to protecting Nigeria’s economic interests and combating cross-border smuggling. He noted that sustained intelligence gathering and enforcement operations would continue to protect national assets. Zone C Area Comptroller, Momodu Dauda, said the operation demonstrates the service’s determination to secure the national economy, enforce trade regulations, and promote legitimate cross-border commerce while suppressing smuggling networks.
He urged citizens to support anti-smuggling efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s economic security.
