Cultists machete man, 65, to death in Abia

Few days ago after a 70 year old Labour Party (LP) chieftain was beheaded in Uturu, Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State, a 65-year old man has been macheted to death in Umumba Nsirimo, Umuahia South Local Government Area by suspected cultists.

The man identified as Mr. Chigbu Chigozie aka “D Bone” was said to have been found dead in his compound on Thursday night with machete cuts.

The deceased yet-to-be identified assailants were said to have stormed his compound on the dead of the night with a motorcycle.

It was gathered that the dastardly act was made known when someone who came to fetch water in the compound that saw the lifeless body and raised the alarm which attracted other members of the community.

Confirming the incident, the Abia State Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Maureen Chinaka in a statement disclosed that the body of the deceased has been deposited in the morgue.

“On the morning of September 21, 2023, at approximately 8 am, the Ubakala Police Division in Abia State received a disturbing incident report.

“It was reported that the lifeless body of an individual was discovered in one Mr. Chigbu’s compound.

“The deceased was later identified as Mr. Chigbu Chigozie, a 65-year-old resident of Umumba Nsirimo, Ubakala, Umuahia South LGA.

“He was found lying in a pool of blood with multiple machete wounds to his head.

“Unfortunately, Mr. Chigbu was confirmed to be deceased”.

She added that some suspects have been arrested and are helping police in their investigation.
