The Emeritus Supreme Head of the Cherubim and Seraphim Unification Church Worldwide, Dr. Solomon Alao, has put forward a seven-point plan to tackle Nigeria’s worsening insecurity.
Speaking at a press conference to herald the 96th Annual General Conference of the church in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, he emphasised the need for state and local police forces to curb the influx of unknown elements into communities.
Alao made advocacy for indigenous police leadership, such that the government would appoint commissioners of police and divisional police officers from each state to ensure they prioritise their community’s safety.
He added that the Anti-Open Grazing Law should be enforced to protect farmers, boost food security, and prevent famine.
Alao also made a case for restructuring of governance, such that the six geo-political zones would be converted into states and states into provinces to reduce governance costs.
He stated further that legislative chambers should be streamlined and a number of representatives from districts and constituencies should be reduced in a bid for legislative costs to experience downward review.
Alao also asked for devolution of more power to states, saying states should be given more autonomy to reduce power struggles.
According to him, ‘There should be a reduction in the cost of running two legislative chambers by giving each state a reduced number of representatives, regardless of the size of the geographical area. The government should devolve more powers to states to reduce unhealthy competition for power at the centre.”
He also asked for an end to godfatherism in the country towards promoting good governance by eliminating undue influence. He stated further that leaders should be elected wisely. Nigerians, he advised, should choose leaders, who prioritise the nation’s welfare.
Alao warned that failure to address insecurity could lead to severe consequences and urged Christians to participate actively in the 2027 elections, seeking God’s guidance for the best leaders.
