The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Senatorial Candidate for Cross River South, Prophetess Esther Archibong, has vowed to give hope to neglected internally displaced persons in Bakassi and transform the senatorial district into an economic hub if elected.
Archibong, who spoke during an interview in Calabar, said Cross River South had been “grossly marginalised” despite being blessed with abundant resources, and declared that “the long-awaited solutions have arrived.”
The NDC candidate, who hails from Bakassi Local Government Area, said the area remains one of the most neglected parts of the state, with thousands of IDPs still without proper housing.
“My plan for the people of Bakassi is to give them hope. Because a lot has happened to us and nobody is speaking for us”, she said.
She also linked the lingering militancy in the hinterlands of Bakassi to neglect, arguing that the people who have been displaced have been neglected.

Beyond Bakassi, Archibong said her main goal is to reposition the entire senatorial district economically.
“My main goal, really, is to make Cross River South an economic hub. And I know I will do it,” she stated.
She listed the empowerment of youth, women and men, and the development of the education sector as key priorities, promising to do “a lot differently” from the current representation.
Archibong urged voters in the zone to support the NDC, saying the time had come for the people to take their rightful place, adding that her campaign would be driven by the need to also address poverty and lack of opportunities in the southern district.
