The Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Hon Peter Odey, has called on religious leaders to shun partisan politics and rather pray for those in positions of authourities.
Odey, who made the call at a thanksgiving service in honour of the Cross Rive chairman of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Dr Apostle Trinity Ogar, and the unveiling of his book, “Acccesing the help of God,” held in Calabar at the weekend, said he sees the religious leaders as spiritual fathers whose duties among others is to intercede for their subjects, the political leaders.
Odey, who congratulated Apostle Ogar on his emergence, expressed confidence that with him the controversy surrounding the PFN in recent times will come to an end.
He said God has used him to bring peace to Christendom, urging Ogar to reposition the state’s PFN to be able to meet the challenges and expectations of their members.
According to him, there were so many controversies within the PFN which suggested that there was some vested interest in some candidates ahead of the general elections, leasing to discordant tunes by the leadership.
“And based on what transpires, I call on religious leaders to shun partisan politics and rather always pray for those authourities whenever they go wrong,” he stated.
“We are here to serve the people no matter the religious affiliation. We are fair to all and do all within our limit to take the state to the next level.”
Giving testimony at the thanksgiving service in his honour, the state chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) Apostle Dr Trinity Ogar, said: “God has been so faithful to me and my family and therefore, I owe God thanksgiving. When we thank Him for a finger, He will give us a helping hand.
“Besides, the Lord removed reproach from our eyes by giving us a daughter after ten years of marriage and also beautiful twins after seven years.”
Ogar, who also doubles as the General Overseer of the Gold City Church Calabar, said: “I cannot describe my mood today because I miraculously emerged state chairman of the PFN amid got contest and intrigues.”
On his part, the state chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev Takis Ciaphas, said the author is frank, upright and has represented his block in CAN effectively.
Dignitaries who attended the book launch include the National Publicity Secretary of the (PFN), Bishop Emmah Isong, Asuquo Ekpenyong, some members of the state executive council as well as the leadership of the PFN and CAN in the state.
