Cross River Government has moved to contain cholera outbreak in Obubura and Biase, two local government areas (LGAs) in the state.

Commissioner for Health, Henry Ayuk, disclosed this in Calabar.

Ayuk confirmed one case was identified in Obubura and two in Biase.

He said an emergency operation centre had been activated by his ministry, with the state Epidemiologist, Blessing Ekpenyong, appointed as incident manager to coordinate the process.

“Response commodities, including drugs donated by National Centre for Disease Control are being put in place by a surveillance unit and logistic management coordinating unit of the state Ministry of Health would be sent to the affected wards.

“The LGA’s rapid response team has already been deployed to affect wards for case investigation and line listing of reported cases, to contain the spread of the disease,” he said.

Ayuk urged the public to adhere strictly to all measures against the disease by avoiding drinking water anyhow, eating unripe fruits and contaminated foods.
