Members of the Organised Labour in Nasarawa State have impeached their state chairman, Alhaji Abdulahi Adeka, for his inability to address the demand of civil servants in the state.
The state executive council of the union, which met yesterday at the Labour House elected Alhaji Bala Umaru, as the new chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress NLC in Nasarawa State.
They accused the former chairman of collecting bribe from the government to surpress the demand of civil servants in the state, adding that two years into the tenure of the former chairman, no single demand of civil servants had been made.
Speaking to newsmen at the Labour House shortly after his election, the new chairman, Comrade Bala Umaru, said the decision had already been communicated to government on the change of leadership.
He explained that they gave the government till the end of yesterday to negotiate with the Labour and address all their demands or the state would be shut down today.
According to him, “Under Adeka, the state has signed a number of agreements without fulfilling any of them, we are tired of his leadership
“Since he came on board, no promotion to any civil servant, no payment of regular salaries, no payment of arrears, in fact, civil servants in the state had it worst under Adeka; that is why the state executive council passed a vote of no confidence on him.”
He added that labour under him would do its best to ensure that all entitlements of workers in the state were paid, saying that he had resolved that strike would be the best option for now since negotiations had not yielded any fruitful result.
Also speaking, the Trade Union Congress, TUC, chairman in the state, Danladi Namo, said governor Almakura’s dog fed better than civil servants in Nasarawa State.
He explained that his union was in full support of the plan to embark on industrial strike.
Speaking to Newsmen, the embattled chairman of NLC, Comrade Abdullahi-Adeka, said he was actually presiding over the meeting when he stood up to attend to an urgent matter at home and on return, he was told of his impeachment.
He explained that his purported impeachment would not hold and that the strike would not take place, adding that the union under his leadership was negotiating with the government on how to address the demands of the civil servants.
