The Osun State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with a case of conspiracy, attempted murder, assault occasioning harm, and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms in Modakeke, located within the Ife East Local Government Area.
The suspects have been identified as Olufemi Olatunji (39), Ajayi Idowu (31), Akingbala Oluwakemi (40), and Adekunle Basirat (40).
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, the arrests stem from a formal petition addressed to the Commissioner of Police regarding the alleged offenses.
In a statement on Wednesday, Ojelabi explained that police operatives subsequently apprehended the suspects.
“During searches conducted at the suspects’ premises, investigators recovered two firearms. A cut-to-size locally made firearm was found in the shop of Adekunle Basirat, who is identified as the wife of Solomon Akinlabi (also known as “Indomine”).
“Additionally, a pump-action firearm was recovered from the residence of Akingbala Oluwakemi, the wife of Akingbala Akindele (known as “Ostand”).
“The suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with the ongoing investigation,” Ojelabi stated.
He added that efforts are underway to apprehend remaining suspects currently at large.
In a separate operation, he said operatives from the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) arrested six suspected members of an unlawful society following reports that armed hoodlums had invaded a school campus with dangerous weapons and injured two students.
The swift response, according to him, led to the arrest of Ajoba Akorede (27), Adam Oseni (27), Ogunrinde Ayomide (21), Ogunlana Muheez (26), Ajose Noah (25), and Adeniyi Damola (25).
“During interrogation, Ajoba Akorede and Adam Oseni confessed to being members of the Aye confraternity. Police confirmed that all suspects will be charged to court upon the completion of the investigation,” Ojelabi said.
Reiterating the Command’s zero-tolerance stance on crime, Ojelabi emphasized the police’s commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining public peace.
He also urged members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to assist security agencies in combating crime across the state.
