Justice Yusuf Ubale Mohammed of the Kano High Court, yesterday, granted an interim order barring the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from arresting the National Leader, New Nigeria People Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Justice Mohammed also restrained the commission from inviting and arresting another pro–Kwankwaso chieftain of the party, Buba Galadima, and five other party leaders loyal to Kwakwaso.
The judge barred the commission, either by itself, its agents, its representatives, cronies or whatsoever acting on its behalf, from arresting, detaining, harassing, intimidating, inviting or in any way infringing on the fundamental human rights of the applicants, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
The order was granted following an ex parte motion dated and filed on June 5 2024 by the applicants, through their counsels, Robert Hon, Esq. and Y. Y Dan Suleiman, Esq. The first to eighth applicants in the suit included the NNPP, Ajuji Ahmed, Dipo Olayoku, Ahmed Balewa, Clement Anele, Folashade Aliu, Buba Galadima and Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Justice Mohammed ordered that both the interim order and the motion on notice, as well as all other processes in the suit be served on the respondent before the adjourned date.
The case was, therefore, adjourned to June 24 for hearing of the motion on notice.
A few days ago, the EFCC had commenced investigation into the N2.5 billion election campaign fund managed by the National Working Committee of the party led by Kwankwaso. The National Secretary of the opposing faction of the NNPP, Oginni Olaposi, had confirmed to the media that he was personally invited by the EFCC to Abuja, to make a statement and clarifications on the petition he signed on behalf of the party against the national working committee, insisting that all was ready for the investigation to commence.
