Court remands another social critic in Ebonyi

A 52-year-old man in Ebonyi State, Chinagwo Paul-Nweke, was yesterday, remanded at the Abakaliki custodial centre  for alleged cyber bullying and threat to life.

He is the fourth person in the state remanded for the offence within two months.

Paul-Nweke, whose address was not provided, is facing a three count charge boarding on conspiracy, cyber bullying and threat to life

The defendant plea was not taken by the court when he was arriagned by the police before Magistrate court 1 in Abakaliki, the state capital.

The prosecutor, Inspector Eberechukwu Obi told the court that the defendant  committed the offence sometime in the month of October, 2025.

Obi said the defendant conspired and committed cyber bullying, threat to one Chinedu Ogah, ‘m’, a member of the House of Representatives.

“That you, Paul-Nweke and others now at large conspired amongst yourselves to commit felony with: cyber bullying.

“The offence contravene section 516 A (a) of the criminal code cap 33, Vol. 1 laws of Ebonyi state, Nigeria 2009.

“The defendant also on same date, transmitted a live broadcast via Facebook account of Amarachi Nweke, ‘f’ to bully comrade Ogah, a broadcast/communication which placed the said Ogah in fear of death, violence and bodily harm,” the prosecutor said.

Counsel to the complaint, Ekigbo Sampson Nnamdi said the defendant bullied Hon. Chinedu Ogah on social media, an action prohibited by the state criminal law.

The Defence Counsel, Cyprian Udu prayed the court for bail and was opposed by the magistrate.

The Magistrate,  Sandra Oyibe,  ordered that the Defendant be remanded at the Nigeria Correctional Centre, Abakaliki,as the court lack jurisdiction to trial the matter

Oyibe, adjourned the matter  to December 9, 2025, for report of compliance.
