Justice Sylvester Popnen of the Rivers State High Court, Port Harcourt will, today, take the pleas of four men linked by the police with the robbery and murder of one Chidi Onwukwe, in Elelenwo, Port Harcourt.
The four, according to the charge marked PHC/667/CR/2022 filed by the police, are Samuel Onwukwe, 49, (1st defendant); Andrew Epai Otanye, 27, (2nd defendant); Samuel Emmason, 26, (3rd defendant) and Promise George, 30, (4th defendant). Justice Popnen fixed the date following the absence of the prosecutor and the suspects.
Proceedings were stalled on different dates from March 2 following the absence of either defence counsel or defendants, amendment of charge or other court engagements, among others.
However, when the court resumed last Thursday for plea taking, the first defendant, who is still in police custody, and the second and fourth defendants, who are on administrative bail, were absent.
