The Caretaker Chairman of Ukum Local Government Area, (LGA), Rev. Haanongon Gideon, has been kidnapped.
It was gathered that the council chairman was kidnapped with his Personal Assistant, his driver and police orderly at the early hours of Saturday.
A source from the area said they were kidnapped between Katsina Ala – Zaki Biam road on their way to the burial of the Ter Katsina Ala, Chief Fezaanga Wombo.
Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Hon. Matthew Abo confirmed the abduction of the chairman.
Abo, in a phone conversation said, “It’s true he was abducted. I cannot say much now because am at a funeral in Katsina-Ala”.
The Secretary of Ukum LGA, Hon. Jonathan Modi, has also confirmed the incident.
Modi, in a statement said plans were already in motion to ensure that the kidnapped chairman and other victims regain their freedom.
The statement read “The Ukum Local Government Area Executive Council, is with dismay to announce the kidnapping of the Council Chairman Hon. Rev. Haanongon Gideon, alongside his Personal Assistant on Administration, Mr. Yuhwam Silas, his personal driver and police orderly.
“The ugly incident took place this morning, along Anyagba, Tongov, in Katsina Ala LGA, of Benue State, around 6:30am, while on the way to attend the burial of the paramount Ruler of Katsina Ala LG, the Ter Katsina Ala, HRH Chief Fezaanga Wombo.
“The Council, hereby, advise all her citizens to remain calm and be law abiding, while measures are in place to making sure the Executive Chairman regains his freedom.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer Benue state command, SP Catherine Anene said she has not been briefed on the incident.
