One corpse has been recovered, with many other victims trapped, at the site of a collapsed uncompleted building at Ochanja Market in Onitsha, Anambra State.

The building under construction located near the Ochanja market, where women sold food stuff and other articles collapsed on Monday night trapping mostly labourers working at the site.

The building collapse was attributed to alleged substandard materials being reportedly used for the construction and poor mixtures of cement and sand at the site.

When visited the site some of the alleged inferior materials used for its construction seen.

A caterpillar excavator was seen upturning and evacuating the rubbles of the collapsed building, in search of the trapped persons while security operatives and government agencies cordoned off the place.

Some of the eyewitness told Daily Sun that building was not strong by just looking at it due to the material used for the construction.

They called on governor Chukwuma Soludo to intervene and arrest the the contractor and those involved in the building to prosecute them to serve as warning to others.
