COOU emerges 3rd in 2024 Shalina Young Talent award

Chizoba Vivian Ihediuche of The Faculty of Pharmacy, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) has emerged 3rd in the 2024 Shalina Young Talent Awards at the national level as a fresh contestant.

The Shalina Young Talent Awards (SYTA) is a yearly contested national quiz competition organised by Shalina Healthcare Nigeria, a multinational pharmaceutical company. The contest is set for final year Pharmacy students in all the 24 accredited Pharmacy schools in Nigeria.

Present on the occasion were Prof. Moji Adeyeye, Director General of NAFDAC; Pharm. Ahmed Babashehu, Registrar, Pharmacy Council of Nigeria; Prof. Cyril Usifo, National President, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, and the MD Shalina Healthcare Nigeria.

Ihediuche emerged first at the local level at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University venue of the contest.

At the final national competition which was held in NECA House, Ikeja, Lagos, the competition tested the contestants on multiple-choice questions, oral presentation, ability to choose a question and answer immediately (rapid fire), and clinical case questions. Out of 24 contestants, Ihediuch made it to the last five and eventually to the third position in the final round coming behind the University of Lagos, and the University of Jos. 

Speaking to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University news, the Dean, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Prof. Theophine Akunne thanked the organisers of the competition for ensuring transparency in the entire process. He stated that COOU is participating in the competition for the first time and would do its best to emerge first in 2025.
