Confusion over Adamu’s future in APC

Abdullahi-Adamu

…NWC member confirm resignation, says he’s yet to submit letter to party’s leadership

From Romanus Ugwu, Abuja

Ahead of this week’s National Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC), there was palpable confusion over the future of the ruling party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu.
Reports claimed that the hitherto embattled ruling party boss resigned his position on Sunday night based on the order of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
While unconfirmed report in some news media claimed that Adamu has resigned, a member of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), told Daily Sun that though he has not officially handed over his resignation letter to the party’s leadership, there were however strong indication that he has done so through the Chairman of APC Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), Hope Uzodinma.
“We also heard the speculations concerning his resignation but as I speak with you now, the NWC members are yet to officially receive his resignation letter. However, I heard that he has sent his resignation letter to the chairman of PGF, Governor Hope Uzodinma. I don’t know why the chairman preferred to do so, but the situation will be clearer by Monday,” the NWC member told Daily Sun in confidence.
However, another source claimed that Adamu is yet to resign, but he has been under severe pressure from powerful forces within the party seriously plotting his exit, to throw in the towel.
“The truth is that some bigwigs in the party are no longer comfortable with Adamu, they are bent on removing him and the National Secretary. They have compiled their sins, presented to President Bola Tinubu and are ready to send them out of office during the NEC meeting this week.
“But in order to mitigate the attendant impact such removal will have on the party and the new administration, a group of party stalwarts will meet with the chairman on Sunday night or early Monday morning to advise him to resign rather than been shown the exit door at the NEC meeting slated for this week,” the source claimed.
A different source within the party however wondered how Adamu who convened NWC crucial meeting for 12 noon on Monday at the NWC Hall of the National Secretariat of the party could throw in towel before the meeting.
“A meeting of NWC has been called for Monday at the instance of the National Chairman. As usual no agenda is on the notice of the meeting. Yes, I heard the feelers that the Chairman may be throwing in his towel at that meeting, but how can do so before the meeting. The truth is that the whole matter is shrouded in a lot of secrecy,” the source noted.
“You know we lost the National Welfare Secretary, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary resigned and if the Chairman and the Secretary are made to resign, the NEC will have to approve a midterm elective national convention of the party to fill the vacant positions,” our source disclosed.
