Community leader lauds new SANs

accolades have continued to pour in for recipients of the Senior Advocate of Nigerian (SAN) rank inaugurated on September 18, 2017. Vice President Yemi Osibanjo’s brother, Akinlolu, Festus Keyamo and 28 others were also administered the oath on as new SAN, in Abuja.
One of the awardees, former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ekiti State, Gboyega Oyewole, was particularly lauded for being conferred with the prestigious award.
A community leader, Chief Teslim Adeola Almaroof, said the recognition was overdue, considering the SAN awardee’s impact over the years on the legal profession in his home state and Nigeria as a whole.
Almaroof who doubles as head of Arota-Ologun in Orile Oshodi, commended the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC), for the confidence reposed in Oyewole to have given him the new title, adding that he has patiently paid his due in the legal profession.
He urged the awardee to use his new position to continue to confront the high and mighty, represent the common man in defence of truth and justice. He added that Oyewole’s admission into the Inner Bar would further strengthen the judiciary in no small dimension.
The rank confers certain privileges on the holder, among which are sitting in the front row of any court in Nigeria, and judges also ensure that cases being handled by SANS are called up first. .
It was gathered that Oyewole and others were chosen after a-three-day interview in which 72 shortlisted candidates participated.
The award brings the number of SANs to 481.
