The Managing Director, Coleman Wires and Cables, Mr George Onafowokan, has said more is needed to be done by the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), the Federal Government to combat counterfeiting in the industry.
Onafowokan disclosed this in Lagos, while proffering ways the challenges facing manufacturing industry can be solved.
According to him, SON and other related agencies need to do more to tackle the challenges.
He also said Coleman would make cables available at affordable prices.
“If the cables are affordable, it is competitive; it will basically stop importation and that is what we are going to be doing and that is what we are doing.
“Also, the more we focus on making it available at an affordable price, I think counterfeiting and adulteration will cease over time,” he said.
The managing director said Nigeria, West Africa and the entire continent should expect a lot more from the brand as the company was increasing investments.
The company has invested over $100 million in fibre optic cables, marine cables and transmission cables, which hasbrought it to this present position.
“The key is providing and continuously pushing efficiency, capacity, creating jobs and in the Nigerian philosophy of Coleman, we do not encourage importation,” he said.
Onafowokan said the company has developed Nigeria and has been able to show that more than 50 per cent of what Coleman produced was either in the first, second, third and maximum, fifth place in the country.
He said this was from the simple principle of made-in-Nigeria cables.
