• Tasks FG to prosecute insurgency sponsors
From Laide Raheem, Abeokuta
Provincial Pastor in-charge of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Ogun Province 4, Simawa, Sagamu Local Government Area, Ogun State, Pastor Felix Kumapayi, has called on President Bola Ahmed to move beyond mere rhetorics and take decisive actions to neutralize insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and terrorism in Nigeria.
He equally charged the administration to stop treating identified sponsors and promoters of insurgency with kid gloves. Rather, they should be prosecuted according to the extant laws of the country.
The cleric made this call while speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the Hallelujah Mega Praise Season 4, held at the weekend.
The programme with the theme “Emmanuel (God with us)” was held at the church auditorium, featured praise and worship, prayers for the country and musical rendition by gospel artistes.
Speaking further, Kumapayi said President Tinubu’s government should stop dragging its feet and take bold actions against the identified financiers of terrorism in the country.
He noted that since the FG has the names of the alleged sponsors, it should demonstrate enough political will to fish them out and make them pay for their crimes.
“The government should do more, because from what we are hearing, they know those sponsors. Therefore, they should flush them out from their hideouts. The government should be bold enough and demonstrate political will to deal decisively with these wicked people. To me, they don’t deserve to be alive because they have provided funds to terrorists that have caused serious havoc in the country.
“Look at the number of human lives that have been lost and the humongous economic damage they have caused. The government should not be shy about carrying out its duties and responsibilities to safeguard the lives and property of Nigerians because of politics.”
On the issue of genocide against Christians in the country, the cleric said it is difficult to describe the attacks on churches as genocide against the Christians, pointing out that both Muslims and Christians have been subjected to attacks by terrorists, bandits and kidnappers.
According to him, several mosques and Muslims have also borne the brunt of insecurity, insisting that it is the sole responsibility of the government to ensure the security of Nigerians irrespective of their religious beliefs.
Commenting of the essence of the mega praise, the cleric explained that “when you praise God and your praise goes up to God, His blessings will descend.”
“This year’s theme was carefully chosen considering the security situation in Nigeria. Emmanuel means God is with you and if God is with us, nobody can be against us. Anybody who cannot kill Jesus Christ cannot kill us. So that is very, very significant. Everybody must embrace him as the Emmanuel.
“Nigerians should have faith in God. We are praying, and we know that God will intervene. I will advise Nigerians not to fear, because God Almighty will intervene. He can demote. He can promote. God can kill and can make a life. Let’s hold on to God,” he said.
Kumapayi, however, admonished Nigerian leaders to embrace God and espouse policies that will ensure the delivery of dividends of democracy and good governance to the people.
He further urged the federal government to use the additional revenue that will accrue to the Federation Account for the benefit of Nigerians.
“The tax reforms that will take effect in 2026 will surely bring in a lot of revenue; but the feeling of the people is this: will the government use it appropriately? So, I want to advise the government that it should use the excess revenue from the tax reforms for the benefit of the people. This is because without people, there cannot be a government,” he said.
