The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Monday evening, met and deliberated on wide range of issues bothering on the composition of the 2027 presidential National Campaign Council ahead of the lifting of the ban on next year’s general elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Rising from the meeting, which lasted between 4.00pm to 6.20pm, the APC NWC, equally resolved to make an official statement on the position of the ruling party on the outcome of the just-concluded Osun State off-cycle governorship election held last weekend.
Barely 48 hours after the Osun governorship poll, the APC NWC had went into the crisis management meeting at the National Secretariait of the party in Abuja.
The meeting was also the first time the NWC was to meet at its National Secretariait since the conclusion of the sales of expression of interest and nomination forms for the 2027 general elections.
Presided over by the National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, a source told newsmen that the meeting was heated as some members claimed being sidelined the duo of the National Chairman and the Secretary, Ajibola Basiru.
The aggrieved members were equally alleged to have complained that the leadership of the party relocated to some private places for the conduct of official business of the party, instead of the tradition of holding meetings at the National Secretariait as was the practice before.
Disclosing further that some NWC members frowned and blamed the Osun governorship on improper coordination, the source lamented that the National Campaign Council members were not allowed to perform their statutory responsibilities.
However, while commenting on the trust of the several hours meeting, the party’s National Publicity Secretary (NPS), Felix Morka, confirmed that the party deliberated on the activities of the party, including the much awaited flagging-off of campaigns for the 2027 elections.
The spokesperson of the ruling party also revealed that the APC will on Tuesday make an official statement on its position about the Osun state governorship poll.
“What we deliberated upon are issues concerning the party including the forthcoming flagging-off of campaigns by INEC.
“The party is at liberty to kickoff its campaign any time, provided we didn’t jump the gun by starting earlier than the stipulated date by INEC.
“Concerning Osun election, I will be issuing a statement to state the position of our great party on Tuesday”, Morka added.
