Clamour for Kanu’s release heightens

•As Igbo group backs Clark’s claim of ill-treatment of S’ East, IPOB leader

From Okwe Obi, Abuja

Request for the release of Nnamdi Kanu thickened, as Igbo union told the Federal Government to show that it was not maltreating the South East or the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, as claimed by an elder statesman, Edwin Clark.

Clark had said the previous administration did everything possible to subjugate the South East region.

President, Igbo Union, Elias Odoemena, in a statement, yesterday, said the hatred allegedly inflicted to the Igbo was alarming despite what the people have done to develop the nation.

Odoemena said the references made by the elder statesman to buttress his observations were convincing enough to all and sundry.

According to him, the remarks by Clark could not be faulted because the elder statesman ‘sitting down sees what younger persons would not see even when on top of Iroko[‘.

He, however, said the ball was on President Tinubu’s court to prove Clark right or wrong.

“President Tinubu is our brother and friend and we want him, as matter of urgency to release, unconditionally, Kalu from Department of State Services (DSS) detention to  Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the president general of Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo,” he said.

He said the international community had frowned at the Nigerian courts for delaying in concluding the trials of Kanu.

However, he praised Vice President, Kashim Shettima, for appointing Igbo sons as his chief security officer and another his special adviser on media.
