The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) has conferred 17 Fellows of the Institute with Life membership and charged them to pursue mentorship, accountability and leadership in their respective spheres of endeavour for young human resource practitioners to learn and practice the profession in line with international best standards.
In a remark, the President & Chairman of the Governing Council of the Institute, Olusegun Mojeed, who spoke at the 2022 Fellows’ Gathering in Lagos, charged the 17 fellows to do everything morally and legally acceptable to bring more young people into the CIPM net.
“We launched the ‘Cohortorial Membership Engagement platforms’ for a starter. These are multigenerational platforms for strengthening relationships and learning among the various generations of our membership,”
CIPM’s President who highlighted the benefits of being a “fellow” of the Institute admonished them to work assiduously to reproduce themselves by pointing the right way to the budding and prospective HR practitioners to guide against unethical practice.
“Please show the way to young HR practitioners out there by sharing your CIPM experience, encouraging them to get certified through the CIPM and actively participate in our activities. We should mentor and provide guidance to young practitioners.
“We must be deliberate in sharing the knowledge and wealth of experience we have garnered over the years and truly give back that which we have received. We can’t allow you to go the memory lane without offloading every requisite knowledge the young ones need. It’s a duty you owe us,”
He added that CIPM would not sit and watch in silence any person or group of persons out to rubbish its hard earned reputation in any guise. “We have very high and esteemed reputation, any person or group of persons who are poised to adulterate us or make us look anything less than what we are and what we stand for shall be resisted,” he affirmed.
On some of its work in progress, he said that the Body of Knowledge (BoK) which stands as the standard of knowledge across the HR value chain was at the stage of execution.
“We are not resting on our oars to ensure that we live up to our mandate to deliver the utmost value to all our stakeholders. The Leadership team will remain open, accountable, and transparent as we will be intentional about providing regular updates on the Institute. Let us continue to work as a team to deliver excellently on our mandate,” he urged.
A fellow, Habila Amos, Director – Administration & Human Resource at National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) assured that his organization would definitely see positive changes having attained the highest level of human resource management. “It is expected of me to bring in innovation and other levels of changes into my organization in the human resource professional.
“HR practice must be done in the most ethical manner, thus, the onus rest on us to preserve it for the coming generations. We have been charged, and I believe we shall not fail the Institute nor Nigeria, as you know, to whom much is given, more are expected. Human resource practitioners are strategic persons anywhere they are, that’s why our organizations look up to us for greater impact, and we must surely deliver,” he maintained.
