The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM), Ogun State Branch, has called on Chrisland University to integrate human resource management into its academic structure and encourage both staff and students to pursue professional certification in the discipline.

The appeal was made during an institutional and advocacy visit to the Vice Chancellor of Chrisland University, Prof. Oyedunni Sola Arulogun, at the university’s Abeokuta campus. Prof. Arulogun, flanked by principal officers including Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. Olatunde Farombi, Registrar Mr. Samuel Omotoso, Bursar Mr. Moses Esah, Librarian Dr. Goodluck Ifijeh, and other top officials, warmly received the delegation.

Leading the CIPM team, Mrs. Oladunni Adetona, MCIPM, described the Institute as the sole regulatory body for the practice of human resource management in Nigeria. She outlined the benefits of CIPM membership, stressing professional certification, capacity-building through trainings and workshops, and networking opportunities as key advantages for both staff and students.

Adetona urged the university to professionalize its administrative and human resource cadre, while also granting CIPM the opportunity to sensitize students—particularly those in Business Administration and Management Sciences—on the value of certification in improving employability prospects. She further advised the institution to establish a dedicated Department of Human Resource Management.

Highlighting upcoming opportunities, she informed the university of the CIPM Ogun State Branch Conference scheduled for September 2–4, 2025, and the CIPM National Conference holding from October 27–30, 2025, at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja.

Also speaking, Mr. Sean Olabode Badiru, MCIPM, Elected Council Member of CIPM and Chairman of the Institute’s Young Professionals Committee, underscored the Institute’s commitment to grooming future-ready professionals. He proposed a curriculum integration initiative that would enable Chrisland students in management-related disciplines to complete CIPM certification requirements before graduation. He assured that CIPM would further provide exposure through workshops, training programmes, and mentorship by practicing HR professionals, thereby equipping students with critical industry insights and competencies.

Dr. Samuel Akintunde, MCIPM, Past Chairman of the Branch, recommended embedding entrepreneurship training into the university’s programmes to strengthen graduates’ employment prospects.

In response, Prof. Arulogun expressed Chrisland University’s willingness to collaborate with CIPM on staff membership, student certification, and capacity development initiatives. She welcomed the proposals for curriculum integration and entrepreneurship training, adding that both staff and students would actively participate in the forthcoming Ogun State Branch conference.

The CIPM delegation also included Mrs. Azizah Alogba-Odusanya, ACIPM, Vice Chairman of CIPM Oke-Mosan Chapter; Mr. Utho Patrick, ACIPM; Mrs. Feyisayo Egbinola, ACIPM; Mrs. Olusayo Vipekode, ACIPM; and Mr. Jimi Ogunyanwo, ACIPM.
