Cholera outbreak: Four things you need to know about this infectious condition

1. Cholera is an infectious condition caused by the ingestion of contaminated food and/or water which can lead to dehydration and even death if untreated.
 
2. While most people do not show symptoms, they can however transmit it. 
 
2. Symptoms of cholera includes severe stooling and vomiting. 
 
3. Cholera is not airborne and can’t be contracted through casual contact with an infected person. It is derived from contaminated fruits (mostly unpeeled) and vegetables, fresh or undercooked food(s), fresh juice and drinks. 
 
4. Cholera can only be managed in a hospital, so anyone showing the symptoms should be taken to the nearest hospital.
