The new Commander of 63 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Asaba, Brigadier General Moronfolu Shonibare, has emphasised the need to nurture and mentor the children in the barracks, to groom them for future leadership and attainment of reputable professional careers that would distinguish them in society.
Speaking in a well attended Children’s Day party hosted by the men and officers of the 3Battalion, Effurun, Uvwie Local Government area of Delta state, yesterday, the Commander noted that the children are the future of the Army and the responsibility to bring out the best in them lies solely on the shoulders of the men and officers in various barracks across the country.
He highlighted the importance of raising them in an environment that fosters their growth, both personal and academic, by providing them with guardian supports and positive role models that would shape them to become better citizens both to the institution and the society.
While describing mentorship as a powerful tool that can make a significant difference in a child’s life, he noted that through mentorship, they can instil values, teach important life skills and encourage them to pursue their dreams academically and professionally.
Earlier in his speech, the Commanding Officer (CO) (R) of the 3 Battalion, Major Mohammed Salman, described Children’s Day as a special occasion that reminds us as parents of the responsibility we owe our kids in terms of good upbringing and positioning them for greater responsibility in life.
He said, “It is a day to reflect on our responsibilities as parents, guardians, and community members to create a safe, supportive, and enriching environment for our young ones to thrive.
“On this note, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the General Officer Commanding 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj Gen EE Emekah, for his support. The entire barracks community are grateful for his kindness.
“Our appreciation also goes to the Commander, 63 Brigade, Commander Sector 1 JTF SS OP DELTA SAFE, Brig Gen MA Shonibare, who is here as our Special Guest of Honour today.

“Remember, you are loved, valued, and capable of achieving great things. Beyond the celebrations, I want you to understand that we are here for you and we are keen to see your success in life”.
