Nigeria’s number one, Chiamaka Nnadozie, has been shortlisted for The Best FIFA Women’s Goalkeeper 2025 award, marking another proud moment for African football and for the Super Falcons’ standout shot-stopper.

The 24-year-old joins an elite list of seven nominees released by FIFA on Thursday as voting officially opened for The Best FIFA Football Awards™ 2025. Nnadozie, who recently moved from Paris FC to Brighton & Hove Albion in the English Women’s Super League, has earned widespread recognition for her commanding performances between the posts for both club and country.

Her nomination places her alongside some of the biggest names in women’s football, including Cata Coll (Spain/Barcelona), Christiane Endler (Chile/Olympique Lyonnais), and Ann-Katrin Berger (Germany/Gotham FC).  Nnadozie has been a standout performer since her breakout displays at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, where she captained Nigeria and impressed the world with her penalty-saving heroics and leadership. Her consistent form in Europe — particularly in the UEFA Women’s Champions League with Paris FC before her summer transfer to Brighton — has cemented her status as one of the top goalkeepers in world football.

If she wins, Nnadozie would become the first African goalkeeper — male or female — to claim the prestigious award since its introduction in 2017.

Each voting group — national team coaches, captains, specialist journalists, and fans — carries an equal 25% weighting in determining the final winner. Nnadozie’s recognition continues Nigeria’s proud tradition of producing world-class football talent. She follows in the footsteps of Asisat Oshoala, who has been nominated multiple times for The Best FIFA Women’s Player award, reinforcing the growing impact of African players on the global stage.

The winners of The Best FIFA Football Awards 2025 will be announced at a gala ceremony early next year, where Nnadozie will be hoping to make history for herself and for African women’s football.
