Association of Papal Knights and Medalists in Nigeria (APKMN), Lagos Province, has called on President Bola Tinubu to prioritise policies that would alleviate the suffering of Nigerians amid the nation’s worsening economic crisis.

Speaking during the conclusion of the association’s three-day conference at the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus Centre in Ikeja, Lagos, its President, Olasupo Adigun, decried the challenges faced by citizens. He noted that stagnant salaries and the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities had left many struggling to survive.

Adigun expressed grave concern about the potential for unrest if the government fails to act swiftly, emphasising that the slightest provocation could trigger anything in the nation.

He stressed the association’s continued engagement with leaders to draw attention to the plight of ordinary Nigerians, advocating policies that reflect compassion and responsibility.

In a communiqué issued at the event, APKMN reaffirmed its commitment to fostering unity through new evangelism programmes that transcend class and religious divisions.

The association emphasised the importance of a society built on love, faith, and justice, while urging leaders to align with Catholic teachings.

Adigun argued that if leaders adopted the principles, the country would experience significant progress in areas such as education, healthcare, and social welfare.

The conference also addressed social and moral issues, condemning same-sex marriage and lifestyle choices deemed inconsistent with Catholic values. The association criticised such practices that are contrary to the teachings of the Church and detrimental to societal harmony.

National Chaplain, Michael Adegbola, echoed concerns about the nation’s oppressive and dishonest systems. In a paper presented at the conference, he warned of the growing uncertainty and the risks it posed to Nigeria’s future.

APKMN called on leaders to draw inspiration from Catholic social teachings to guide their governance and promote a more equitable and just society.

As the association continues its advocacy efforts, it remains steadfast in its mission to uphold faith, morality, and the well-being of all Nigerians.
