The Surulere-based CAT Ladies secured the 3rd Navaney Foundation Women’s Championship title after a dramatic penalty shootout against Aishat Yusuf from Badagry.

The final match, held at the Nathaniel Idowu Football Pitch in Orege-Ajegunle, Lagos State, also featured the Euro Queens from Ajegunle, who won the bronze medal after a thrilling 4-3 penalty shootout against the Great Star Amazons from Okoko.

Chief John Akpan, founder of the Navaney Charity Foundation, expressed his delight, stating, “We are thrilled with the standard of play and the successes achieved in this edition, which will encourage us to host more tournaments in the future. As a charity organization, the Navaney Charity Foundation is dedicated to empowering girls and communities, promoting positive values through football, which has the remarkable ability to unite, inspire, and transform lives.”

A total prize pool of N1, 000,000 was available, with CAT Ladies receiving N500, 000 as champions, the runner-up receiving N300, 000, and the third-place team awarded N200, 000. “This is our way of rewarding the girls, and all individual award winners also received N50, 000 each. We hope to improve next season,” he added.

“However, the key focus for us at the Navaney Charity Foundation is to see more of these girls graduate to national women’s teams, play for clubs in the elite women’s league division, and potentially make it to Europe.”
