The lawmaker representing Boki/Ikom Federal Constituency of Cross River State, Victor Abang, has described the entry of armed Cameroonian soldiers into Danare Community, Cross River State, as a ‘direct affront to Nigeria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity’.

Abang’s reaction followed the recent incursion into the border community in Boki Local Government Area, an incident that triggered panic among residents.

The federal legislator said the unauthorised entry of foreign troops into Nigerian territory was unacceptable and must not be tolerated under any circumstances. He warned that such repeated border breaches pose serious security risks to border communities and the nation at large.

‘Nigeria’s territorial integrity remains inviolable. The presence of armed foreign troops on our soil without authorisation is a direct affront to our sovereignty. This cannot continue.’

Beyond security, Abang said the development threatens decades of cordial relations between Nigeria and Cameroon. He noted that persistent boundary disputes also endanger the livelihoods of residents who depend on peaceful cross-border trade and farming.

The lawmaker commended Danare residents for remaining calm despite the tension, saying their restraint averted possible escalation.

Abang called on the federal government to take immediate diplomatic steps to engage Cameroonian authorities and resolve outstanding boundary issues along the Nigeria-Cameroon border.

He urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Boundary Commission, and security agencies to investigate the latest incursion and strengthen protection for border communities.
