CAF Secretary General resigns, Ahmad resumes office

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Secretary General, Hicham El Amrani resigned on Sunday, a week after elections that swept long-standing President Issa Hayatou from power.
El Amrani, in a letter to CAF, said he would be departing today, but gave no reason for his decision.
The 37-year-old Moroccan had served as secretary general for the last six years.
Hayatou was deposed as CAF President 10 days ago at elections in Ethiopia, where six of his allies on the body’s executive committee also lost their positions.
El Amrani’s resignation letter was tendered at the CAF meeting on Sunday where new President, Ahmad, chaired a meeting with staff of the organization at the CAF Secretariat in Cairo, Egypt.
The meeting marked his assumption of office following his election to the position during the 39th CAF Ordinary General Assembly on 16 March 2017 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
