Nigerian football administrator Samson Adamu has been appointed Acting Secretary General of the Confederation of African Football, becoming the first Nigerian to hold the position since the continental body’s establishment over 70 years ago.
Adamu’s appointment was confirmed on Sunday following the resignation of Swiss-Congolese official Veron Mosengo-Omba, who stepped down the same day.
Before his elevation, Adamu served as CAF’s Director of Tournaments and Events, playing a central role in the organization of major continental competitions.
His nomination was proposed by the CAF Executive Committee and ratified by Congress during its meeting on March 29, 2026, at the Giza Palace Hotel in Cairo.
Adamu also hails from a notable sports administration background, being the son of a former Director General of Nigeria’s National Sports Commission, a connection that underscores his deep-rooted ties to sports governance in the country.
