The Deputy National Chairman, South, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Ben Nwoye, has urged residents of Enugu North Senatorial District to come out en masse on Saturday for the June 20 senatorial by-election to vote for candidates of their choice.
This was even as he appealed to the electorate to avoid violence to ensure peaceful conduct of the senatorial by-election in the area.
Nwoye made the call in Nsukka on Friday while speaking with newsmen ahead of the Saturday by-election.
He appealed to residents of the district who are eligible to vote to come out and vote candidates of their choice, urging them to avoid all forms of violence before, during and after the election.
“It’s your civic right to vote candidates of your choice but in doing that you must avoid all forms of violence so that the election will be peaceful, free and fair.
“Avoid all unlawful activities, vote and stay until the votes in ur polling units are counted so that you know that your vote counts.
“Candidates in the election should abide by rules of engagement and should not in any way obstruct security agencies from doing their duties of providing security and safety to everybody,” he said.
The Deputy National Chairman, South, also said that the APC candidate in the by-election is Chief Ikeje Asogwa, whom he described as ” a man with an enviable track record.”
He expressed optimism that Asogwa would be victorious in the election, haven campaigned diligently in the six local government areas that make up Enugu North Senatorial District.
“I and my team from APC National Secretariate are in Nsukka to help in mobilizing residents to ensure they turnout en masse on Saturday,” he said.
Nwoye commended INEC’s commitment to conduct credible, free and fair by-election that would produce a senator who would replace the late Sen Okey Ezea, who represented the district but died on November 18, 2025.
“I commend the umpire in Enugu State for its dedication and transparency since the date of the by-election in Enugu North Senatorial District was announced by INEC headquarters, Abuja.
“I urge the commission to ensure a credible, peaceful, free and fair election on Saturday, June 20, by-election in Enugu North Senatorial District.
“APC will accept the outcome of Saturday’s by-election because the party has confidence in the capacity of INEC to conduct a free and fair election,” Nwoye added.
