Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Burna Boy has become the first African artist to reach the top of the Billboard Global 200 Songs chart.

The Grammy Award-winning musician achieved the milestone with ‘Dai Dai,’ his collaborative FIFA World Cup song featuring Colombian singer Shakira. The track climbed to No. 1 on this week’s Billboard Global 200 rankings.

In addition to leading the Billboard Global 200, ‘Dai Dai’ also secured the top spot on the Billboard Global 200 Excl. U.S. chart. The song continued its strong performance in the United States, jumping 12 places to a new peak of No. 55 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Meanwhile, another Nigerian astist, Tems’ ‘What You Need’ moved up five places to reach a new peak of 39 on the Billboard Hot 100 after 15 weeks on the chart.

‘What You Need’ recently reached number one on both the Billboard Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart and the Mediabase Urban radio airplay chart.

Tems is the first solo African artiste to hit the milestones.
