World hurdles record holder Tobi Amusan may be heading to the World Championship in Budapest, Hungary despite the provisional suspension from the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU).

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) is hopeful that the reigning world champion’s suspension would be lifted in time for the world championship, hence the decision to include her name in the main entry list of Team Nigeria athletes sent to World Athletics  for the Championship billed to start on August 19, 2023.

Amusan was provisionally suspended for three whereabouts failures last month, which saw the Nigerian dropping from the third spot in her event three weeks ago to 11th position in the world ranking.

On Monday, the AFN sent the names of the athletes expected to fly Nigeria’s flag when the world championship begins in Budapest.

Daily Sun Sport enquiries revealed that while Amusan’s name is conspicuously missing in the list made available to media in Nigeria, however, her name is on the main entry list sent to the World Athletics in anticipation that she may get a favourable judgment by AIU before the competition starts next weekend.

The list has a mixture of both home based and foreign-based athletes in it.

In the men list are Iteshekiri Usheoritshe, Ashe Favour, Seye Ogunlewe, Alaba Akintola, Fakroede Adekalu, Karlignton Anunagba, Dubem Nwachukwu, Nathaniel Ezekiel, Chidi Okezie, Samuel Ogazi and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi.

The women’s list has Olympic Bronze medalist, Ese Brume, Rosemary Chkuwma, Favour Ofili, Umukoro Success, and Okwose Faith.

Others are; Patience Okon, Uko Imaobong Nee, Eyakpobeyan Justina, Patience George Okon, One Opeyemi One, Omojuvwewo Ella, Ruth Usoro, Amaechi Obiageri, Aumba Ashley, Chioma Onyekwere and Olatoye Oyesade.
