Alhaji Buba Galadima is one of the most vocal politicians in Nigeria, known for speaking his mind on national issues without fear of contradiction.
Trained as an Engineer at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, he made an enviable mark at the Nigerian Maritime Authority, now known as the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) where he rose to the position of Director General before joining politics.
Over the years, he has played significant roles in the country’s politics. At the dawn of the Fourth Republic in 1999, Alhaji Buba Galadima became a leading figure in the main opposition party, the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP).

Under President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration, he became a leading opposition figure. Remarkably, when that administration proposed Local Government Reforms, he led the pushback, insisting that the government wanted to appoint heads of local governments by proxy.
Like most notable politicians, Alhaji Buba Galadima has done his bit of party shuffles, having moved from the ANPP to lead the breakaway Buhari Organisation, which later transformed to the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and eventually merged with other political groups to form the All Progressives Congress (APC).
One thing that stands him out is the fact that he is a fearless politician. Although he spent almost a decade promoting the political interest of former President Muhammadu Buhari, when the time came for him to oppose the president’s style of governance, he did so in the most eloquent manner, despite that other politicians criticised him in whispers. The interesting thing was that he did all that in good faith.
In his political career, Alhaji Buba Galadima has been arrested, detained and harassed for about 38 times and in some cases, under dehumanising conditions, but he stood his ground as a patriotic, loyal and dedicated democrat.
For his contributions to nation building and deepening democracy, The Sun Board of Editors chose him as winner of The Sun Lifetime Achievement Award 2025.
