The Deputy Governor of Benue state, Barr. Sam Ode, has stated that the Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration is passionate and focused in meeting the yearnings and needs of Benue people in all sectors of the economy.
Barr. Ode stated this during the tour of some facilities renovated or constructed at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, (BSUTH), Makurdi, by Chief Medical Director, (CMD), Dr Stephen Hwande, an event to mark his 100 days in office.
The deputy governor who noted that Governor Hyacinth Alia and his team will fulfil all their campaign promises, said he is also eager to reposition the teaching hospital for effective health care service delivery given the premium he placed on the lives of the people.
He stressed that the appointment of both Dr Hwande and the State Commissioner for Health and Human services, Dr Yanmar Ortese was deliberate and a welcome development as he commended them for revolutionizing the sector by delivering on international parameters which government has set in the health sector.
The deputy Governor who praised the new CMD for justifying the little resources entrusted to him, said “We are well equipped with intellectual and material resources and well prepared to deliver on all the campaign promises on our blue print. Take this to the bank.”
He assured BSUTH that their prayer for over 50 percent implementation of the capital budget for the hospital has already been answered saying as an advocate of the health sector, will ensure the budget is implemented far above their expectations.
Earlier, the Chief Medical Director, BSUTH, Dr Stephen Hwande appreciated the Governor and the deputy for the budgetary allocation to the health sector and to BSUTH in particular saying out of that, the hospital and the Benue people will have a new lease of life if implemented at least by 50 percent.
He said under his 100 days in office, most of the hospital facilities have been fixed adding that “with 250 KVA transformer given to the hospital, light problems has be resolved to the barest minimum, we have improved water treatment and supply, water is flowing in the wards and doctors quarters.
“We have fixed the isolation center, the mortuary, hospital fence, renovated the water treatment plant, the GOPD, radiology and several other places and with your support, we will not disappoint you,” Hwande said.
State commissioner for Health, Dr Yanmar Ortese commended the state governor and his deputy for prioritizing health of the Benue people and taking measures to ensure they get the best just as he thanked the CMD for doing so much in such a short period.
Ortese disclosed that due to government deliberate policies on workers welfare, “most staff that left are beginning to come back and we have a very happy staff at the BSUTH.
Oertese lamented that “We had shortage of staff in the hospital and the entire Benue health workers were taking hazard allowance that was implemented as far back as 1960 while their counterparts are enjoying the new Government approved allowances.”
He appreciated Governor Alia for ensuring that Benue workers are at par with their mates elsewhere assuring that they will only offer best health care services to the people.
