Reprieve may, at last, come the way of Nigerian universities as the Federal Government has struck a deal with the non-teaching staff of the universities.

After eight hours of negotiations, the Federal Government finally reached a new agreement with the striking unions to end the strike action, that has entered the second week.

Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen. Chris Ngige, who led the Federal Government’s delegation at the meeting, assured that the government had agreed to address all the 12 issues raised by the striking workers, including payment of salary shortfalls and unpaid earned allowances.

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the National Association of Academic Technologists( NAAT) and the Non Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU), who had been on strike in the last two weeks, therefore, are expected to suspend the strike after their executive council meeting.
