President Muhammadu Buhari has approached the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT) for an order compelling the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to allow him unhindered access to inspect electoral materials used for the February 23 presidential election.

The request which was contained in

an exparte application filed by the leader of his legal team, Wole Olanipekun (SAN), is coming after the tribunal had on March 6, granted a similar application brought by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

The motion is predicated on the provisions of Section 151 (1) and (2) of the Electoral Act.

Specifically, the president is asking the tribunal to compel INEC to allow him access to inspect and make copies of the documents and to certify them as true copies by the electoral body.
