Good-spirited Nigerians, organisations, and corporate bodies have been called upon to come to the aid of Waleola Abdulmalik for surgical operations to live life well again.

Abdulmalik, a nine-year-old boy with a hole in the heart, needs help to raise the sum of N8.2m (Eight million and two hundred thousand naira) for an open-heart surgery to live a healthy life.

In early February 2024, Abdulmalik fell sick and was taken to the hospital, where it was diagnosed that he had a hole in the heart. “Initially, we thought it was malaria and so we took him to a private hospital where he was treated for malaria. After some time, he relapsed and we went back to the hospital and we were referred to Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital (OAUTH), Ife, where it was discovered that he had a hole in the heart. Since then, we have spent over N4 million on diagnosis, tests and treatments,” the father, Olayemi Waleola, disclosed.

The family is appealing to everyone to come to the rescue of Abdulmalik to raise the funds needed for the open-heart surgery at OAUTH.

According to the father, by the time it was discovered that it was a hole in the heart and they would need N8.2m, he had expended all the family’s resources on diagnosis and treatment: “As it is, we don’t have the means for the surgery. My wife and I have expended all the resources we have. We are calling on good-spirited Nigerians to come to the aid of our son, Abdulmalik. We don’t want him to die. Nigerians should help us save the life of our boy,” Waleola appealed.
