A boxer identified as Bintin has been detained by police in Lagos over the death of a carpenter known simply as Yellow in the Ikorodu area of the state.

Yellow reportedly died after a scuffle with Bintin over a burst football on Saturday in the Adamo area of Ikorodu.

It was learnt that Yellow seized the ball belonging to Bintin’s son and burst it while the boxer was not at home.

Residents said the boxer’s wife called him on phone and informed him about the incident.

Upon arrival, Bintin confronted the boxer in the presence of the community leader, who mediated and directed Yellow to replace the damaged ball.

Witnesses said while Yellow was on his way to buy the ball, Bintin rushed after him and delivered a blow to his forehead.

The carpenter was said to have collapsed and was rushed to the Agbowa General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

Confirming the incident, spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi said the boxer has been detained at the Agbowa police division.

She added that the case would soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba for proper investigation.
