On the 18th of May 2024, Boss Babes Nigeriaembarked on a conflict management project called FREE HER PROJECT based on a gap we have identified and have decided to addressas an association. According to UNWomen, 17.4% of ever-partnered women have experienced physical &/or sexual intimate partner violence. We believe that if conflict is manged properly, then it wouldn’t lead to violence. This project, equipped women with the relevant information and skills in managing localized or interpersonal conflicts and most importantly creating a safe space for participants to share experiences and perspectives on issues of concern. The project also handed out materials with information on where to seek help from in times of danger such as Boss Babes Nigeria, FIDA, WARIF, DSVA etc.

The Lagos Chapter of Boss Babes Nigeriaheaded by Ms Ifeoma Aniekwe visited the market women at Ile Epo market Abule Egba, Lagos State, Nigeria where this pilot project took place. We say pilot because this is the first of many. The sensitization session was facilitated by a member of the organization called Rita Leko who had undergone a train the trainer session by a peace building expert, Ms Juliana Masi (Asst Director, Rivers State Ministry).

The sensitisation session ended with donations of bags of food items to 50 women from the market. The founder, Dr Chioma Masi Onoshakpor who is a lecturer at the Robert Gordon University, UK and an advocate for women/girls through her research, commended the Lagos Chapter for this laudable step in nationwide peace building as she believes that when you empower a woman, you empower a community and the nation.
