Borno State has commenced reorganization and reintegration of 2,775 Koranic centers in the state to accommodate numeracy and skill acquisition programme under the Tshangaya education.
State governor Babagana Zulum disclosed on Tuesday in Maiduguri while receiving the report of the Tshangaya Board on the reorganization process.
“Our major desire is to provide quality Islamiyah and Tshangaya education, digital knowledge, numeracy and skill acquisition,” Zulum disclosed.
He said the state has done well in its move to reintegrate and reorganize the Islamiyah education system into a broad education programe. He said the state has attracted funding for the programme following its push for the reforms.
He assured the board of government readiness to implement recommendations of the board. He asked the board to work assiduously with the ministry of education and other relevant agencies to achieve the set target.

State Chairman Arabic and Tshangaya Education Board, Khalifa Ali Andulfathi while presenting the report said, the board committee visited 24 of Borno’s 27 local governments, collected I formations from proprietors of Koranic schools.
He said the committee discovered a total ofb12, 390 teachers and 244. 600 learners available in the Tshangaya centres. He said the board committee has however validated 451 centres for the reintegration process.
He revealed 94 percent of the Tshangaya centres lack toilets and other basic facilities.
Among the recommendation of the committee according to Abdulfathi include provision of infrastructure, instructional material, unified curriculum and food suppliers by individual and organization donors.
The Tshangaya or Almajiri education, is an initiative of the Federal Government to address the challenges of out-of-school children and street begging in the northern states. The reintegration aims at introducing numeracy and other programmes in the curriculum.
