Borno yesterday held a town hall meeting to collate citizens’ input for the draft of the 2026 financial appropriation bill proposed for presentation to the state House of Assembly in December.

Governor Babagana Zulum said the  meeting was part of efforts to build inclusiveness in governance and sharpen the future of the state.

“We can no longer depend on humanitarian assistance, or fluctuating Federal Allocation for sustainable development, As we deliberate, I therefore urge you to feel free to contribute meaningfully toward the course of sharpening our future,” Zulum said.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Bukar Tijani, the governor said the event was an interactive, inclusive gathering and a shared commitment of the people to move from recovery to self-reliance after years of insurgency.

“I give you the assurance that as you make your contributions, your voice will not only be heard but be translated into a budget that will shape the history of our dear state.”

He said the 2026 appropriation when finalized, will be the 6th budget of his administration having assumed the governorship seat since 2019.

“We have championed projects that have touched the lives of our people and our efforts have not only been applauded within the state but across the nation and the globe,” he added.

Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Dr. Babagana Mustapha, explained that there is a strategic shift in the 2026 budget. He said the government is moving from  recovery to self-reliance and prosperity.

Various groups including the Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), religious bodies, groups and individuals made written submissions at the well-attended town hall meeting.
