Borno declares holiday for new Islamic year

The Borno State government has declared a public holiday on Wednesday to mark a new Islamic year.

The government in a statement by the acting Head of the Civil Service, Mallam Fannami, said the holiday was to allow Muslims commemorate the Islamic new year (1445 AH)- After Hijra.

“This is to inform the general public that His Excellency the Executive Governor of Borno State Prof. Baba Gana Umara Zulum, has declared Wednesday 1st Day of Muharram 1445 After Hijira (AH) which is equivalent to the 19th July 2023 as a Public Holiday to commemorate the first day of the Islamic Calendar Year 1445 (AH) after Hijra,” it said.

It urged citizens to be faithful and reflect on the important date and rededicate themselves to peaceful co-existence and service to humanity.

Many workers who were not aware of the public holiday turned up in the their offices especially at the state secretariat. The announcement came late Tuesday.
