From Sola Ojo, Abuja
Abuja is set to host one of its biggest cultural showcases of the year as the BLVCK Pan-African Art Exhibition opens on September 27, 2025, at the Orisun Art Gallery, Tropic Galleria. The BLVCK is said to be a movement, and an artistic call to reclaim African identity, celebrate resilience, and honour the unbroken bonds of family and community.
The event is being spearheaded by Richardson Ojeka, social entrepreneur and convener of Project BLVCK, and Adebayo Ebenezer Seun, a multidisciplinary fine artist and curator, whose works have featured at the Dak’Art Biennale in Senegal and TEDx platforms. Adebayo is renowned for his use of performance art and speed painting as instruments of democratic activism and social justice.
Two major works would serve as the centrepieces of the exhibition. Dog in the City portrays the migrant journey, capturing the tension between promise and loss in the search for opportunity.
In contrast, The African Family celebrates heritage, togetherness, and kinship, affirming the strength of Africa’s communal bonds.
Alongside these works, the exhibition would feature pieces from Adebayo and 11 other leading Nigerian artists drawn from across the North, South, East, and West of the country.
Each artist is expected to contribute their unique perspective to BLVCK’s collective vision of freedom, strength, and identity.
Speaking ahead of the event, Ojeka described the project as a celebration of Africa’s creativity and power to shape its own future. The BLVCK Pan-African Art Exhibition is expected to be one of Abuja’s cultural highlights of 2025, with its international collaborations, a diverse line-up of celebrated artists, and its focus on creative activism.
