It is often said that real philanthropists are buoyed by their deep or inner satisfaction of impacting on the lives of their beneficiaries. Billionaire tycoon Femi Peters Otedola belongs to that class of good men. For the Chairman, Geregu Power Plc, philanthropy is a lifestyle. He sees generosity as an art through which he creates an unconditional and abundance of love and happiness for others. For many years, the Epe, Lagos-born gregarious businessman has proven to be a pacesetter in terms of humanitarian gestures.
He was once quoted as saying: “God has been so kind to me in life. I feel highly privileged. The only way I can show my gratitude to Him is to use my resources to support those who are underprivileged. This I intend to do for the rest of my life.” When Otedola made the above statement some years back, many did not understand the depth of those words. However, they’ve been forced to believe as he has proven that he meant every single word he said.
No doubt, in the year 2023, apart from business, another thing that kept soft-spoken Otedola in the heart of everyone was his act of giving. Asides spending billions on scholarships for indigent students in Lagos, many also enjoyed his milk of kindness for a long time.
Recently, he doled out N1 milion scholarship each to over 750 students of Augustine University, Epe, Lagos. In 2019, Otedola donated a record-breaking N5 billion at a charity event that has continued to enjoy generous mention in Nigeria and outside the shores of the African continent.
