Bigi, Nigeria’s leading carbonated soft drink, added more excitement to the ongoing Nigerian Idol music reality show on Sunday, as it brought past winners, Kingdom Kroseide and Progress to entertain consumers and fans at Ikeja Shopping Mall, Lagos.

 

Organised to also commemorate this year’s Father’s Day as well as give music lovers the opportunity to connect with their most cherished Nigerian Idol winners, the event turned out a major attraction at the venue.

The atmosphere became charged as Kingdom, who has been praised for his unique vocal, energetic performances and crowd appeal, started thrilling with his debut single, My Father’s Got It All, which sent Bigi consumers and fans to cloud 9.

Speaking after his performance, Kingdom said: “To be honest, I’m intrigued by the large crowd and I want to commend Bigi drinks for availing this platform to receive much love from Nigerians, most especially on Father’s Day.”

Progress, who has been enjoying massive love and attention from Nigerians upon winning the last Nigerian Idol, set the shopping mall agog with his performance of Rihanna’s Lift Me Up.

He expressed satisfaction with the flash mob and applauded Bigi Drinks for organizing such an event.

In her remarks, Assistant Brand Manager, Bigi, Biola Aransiola said: “We wanted to do something distinct to honour fathers on their special day, as we know that fathers play an important role in their families, and yet are the least celebrated. And considering footfalls, the venue is mostly the choice of fathers to hang out with their loved ones to relax, unwind and have fun in a distinctive way.

Meanwhile, top 6 contestants have emerged as Chisom was eliminated from the show on Sunday evening after getting the least votes from viewers. With the theme: ‘Family Favourite’, the Nigerian Idol show gave contestants the opportunity to render songs from their family’s library, that is, the ones they inherited from either the father or mother, as they likewise got the opportunity of a family member accompanying them at the waiting lounge.

Coming on stage first, Victory Gbakara displayed raw talent while performing My Redeemer by Nicole C Mullen, and as usual he got all commendations from the judges. Grabbing the microphone, Ose Daniel performed Nothing’s Gonna Change My Love For You by George Benson, in the presence of his mum. Precious Mac seized the moment to render Shania Twain’s From This Moment, bringing her sister to tears owing to the beautiful delivery of the song. Goodness delivered Mercy Said No by CeCe Winans, leaving the audience wowed and taking D’banj through the tune, as he found it fascinating.

Bringing the show to a near-end, Henry rendered Hero by Enrique Iglesias, specifically for his mum, while Quest solidified her spot with CeCe Winans’ Alabaster Box. Remarkably, all the contenders got applause from the spectators and presiding judges for dishing out their best, making the night worthwhile.

Viewers can vote for their favourite contestants, up to twenty-five thousand units via MyDStv and MyGOtv while an additional 100 votes can be done through the website and mobile phone, respectively. The show continues on Sunday, June 25 on DSTV channel 154 and GOTV channel 11 (Magic Showcase).
