Benue: Non-profit donates desks, education packs to Makurdi school

From Rose Ejembi, Makurdi

Acorn Initiative, a non-profit organisation, has donated 20 desks and 34 basic educational packs to the LGEA Primary School, Demekpe, Makurdi, Benue State.

Donating the items to the school on Tuesday, Acorn Initiative’s Project Director (Nigeria), Mrs Jennifer Omale, disclosed that the gesture was borne out of the desire of the United Kingdom (UK) based founder of the organisation, John Igoche to contribute his quota to the development of public schools in Nigeria.

She recalled that the initiative had earlier in the year donated a borehole to the school as well as made one donation or the other to other schools within Benue State even as she promised that the organisation would look into the provision of toilets for the school.

She disclosed that the Initiative conceived the idea of providing desks after she visited the school a few months back and discovered that some students were sitting on the bare floor to take lessons.

Omale while appreciating the teachers of the school for their hardwork posited that no amount of support can be enough to pay them for their commitment towards raising future generations of educated people in the country.

On her part, Acorn Initiative’s Project Manager, Mrs Mary Ikwue, expressed joy that the organisation was looking the way of the school again, just as she urged the management of the school to take the donation as a little token to encourage both the pupils and their teachers.

“We are here to give just a little again to the school and we are happy the school has found favour with Acorn. We appreciate the teachers for their show of love and commitment to the work.
The donation is just a little of what the school needs.”

Also speaking, one of the teachers in the school, Apostle James Nyinongu thanked Acorn Initiative for the donation and urged them to continue with the good work.

Responding, Head Teacher of the school, Mrs Rebecca Ashi-Yugh, commended Acorn Initiative for the wonderful project even as she promised that the school would make judicious use of all that had been donated.
