The New Nigeria Peoples’ Party (NNPP), Benue State chapter, has condemned the Tribunal Judgment against Kano Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The Kano State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, in their judgement, sacked the the Governor, Abba Yusuf, of the NNPP and declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), Nasiru Gawuna, winner of the March 2023 election.

The leadership of the party in Benue, headed by Group Captain Stephen Adah (rtd), while reacting to the development, described the judgement as a judicial robbery urging relevant authorities to review it.

The party in a statement signed by Group Captain Adah read, “The party leadership and members in Benue, wishes to express our profound disappointment in the recent tribunal judgment delivered on 19th September 2023, concerning the Governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf.

“As a body that is committed to promoting fair and just judicial practices, we find it perturbing that the verdict does not appear to epitomize these tenets.

“It is our belief that the tribunal’s decision not only undermines the democratic principles that our nation stands for but also brings into question the overall integrity of our justice system.”

The leadership of the NNPP in Benue state, under the strategic guidance of Group Captain Stephen Adah (RTD), reminds all concerned parties that justice should not just be done, but be seen to have been done.

“We, therefore, fervently entreat our judicial system to uphold the principles of fair judgment in order to foster trust among the citizens of our great nation.”

Adah argued that “At this point in our Nigerian democratic journey, our focus should be towards bolstering the rule of law, furthering accountability and transparency, and most importantly, ensuring the people’s mandate is honoured and respected.

“With an APC sitting governor controlling all security agencies in Kano, the party could not win because the people rejected the elite friendly Government of the APC in Kano and opted for the poor, down trodden and the oppressed friendly government of the NNPP.”

While noting Governance is about making life meaningful to the poor, oppressed and vulnerable persons in the society, Adah said the NNPP government in Kano has put smiles in the faces of the oppressed.

“Therefore, we call on the relevant authorities to launch an immediate review of the judgment in order to prevent a looming dispensation of unequally metered justice.

“I urged all meaningful Nigerians to rise up to the challenge. We in the NNPP will appeal the judicial robbery against the good people of Kano. At the end, truth and light must prevail against lies and darkness,” he added.

The state chapter of the NNPP has also urged the Fr Alia APC led government in Benue to up their game of delivering to the people, “the sweet taste of change of bad government to another.”

Group Captain Stephen Adah (rtd) said “I expect that the heap of refuse dumped all over the state capital will be cleared by now by any serious government after 100 days in office.

“We also hope that the numerous pot holes in our roads patched to enable us drive on the roads since building good roads in the state is now rocket science.

“I encourage the Reverend gentleman to look at the poor and the perpetually oppressed Benue people and work out means of making their wellbeing meaningful.”

He encouraged that formulation of Government policies should target the majority of the people through the provision of good roads, water and electricity to support small businesses pledging that the Benue NNPP will offer constructive and positive opposition in the state.
